CLEAN ENVIRONMENT

INTRODUCTORY
WORD

The sustainability and growth of Ukrainian economy depend greatly on the stable performance of the nuclear power sector.

The strongest argument for development of the nuclear power in Ukraine and worldwide is the counteraction to global climate change caused by the greenhouse effect of operation of the fuel and energy sector.

Nuclear power is a source of clean low carbon energy. It is a great honour for the Company to win recognition in 2018 for Energoatom’s contribution to the fight against climate change, as the Company ranked among world’s top five greenest power generating companies in the world.

Environmental safety, environmental protection, health of employees and the population, and the rational use of natural resources are Energoatom’s priorities enshrined in the Company’s Statement of Policy.

Energoatom’s major goals are safe production of clean electricity at nuclear power plants and continuous improvement of the nuclear, radiation, and environmental safety of Ukrainian NPPs.

With the safety improvement programmes implemented for many years, power units at Ukrainian NPPs operate now in line with the global standards.

For Energoatom, 2018 was a landmark year, as the Company worked to meet requirements of a new environmental impact assessment procedure. We initiated and successfully conducted transboundary expert consultations to discuss findings of the environmental impact assessment at Zaporizhzhya NPP and South-Ukraine NPP, as well as conducted the environmental impact assessment for completion of power units No. 3 and No. 4 at Khmelnytska NPP.

NON-FINANCIAL REPORT 2018

The environmental policy cannot be fully implemented without monitoring of the Company’s environmental impact. Our investments in laboratory equipment showcase our commitment to environmental protection. In 2018, chemical laboratories at NPPs saw the first upgrade, with the Company purchasing the first batches of equipment worth over UAH 6 million.

Throughout 2019, the Company will continue to implement its environmental policy, making every effort to improve energy efficiency and rational use of natural resources and reducing the negative impact of chemical pollution from operations of its facilities. We plan to introduce systemwide green office principles so that environmental issues always remain a priority for our employees at work and in life.
